After long months of lockdown, the first opening steps in numerous areas of public life are planned for May. Especially crisis-ridden sectors such as retail and gastronomy are hoping for a noticeable revival of their business.

Good accessibility of the city centre is important for this. In order to attract more visitors to Klagenfurt’s city centre, the parking operator Contipark is reducing its daily rate at the Viktringer Ring car park by more than half for customer card holders. From 19 May, owners of the free P Card can park for two euros for 24 hours at the car park located south of the city centre. With this, the company wants to give an impulse and increase the attractiveness of the city centre.

Even before the outbreak of the Corona pandemic, Klagenfurt’s city centre was struggling with vacancies and a loss of visitors. To prevent it from becoming the permanent loser of the Corona crisis, the parking operator is also committed to boosting the regional economy. After all, a comfortable journey and parking close to the centre are part of the shopping experience in the city centre.

Klagenfurt has about 95,000 square metres of retail space. According to the latest vacancy survey from 2019, about 13 percent of this space is empty. This development is typical for the past years and can also be observed in many other cities. In addition to the repeated lockdowns of the past few months, brick-and-mortar retail is being hit above all by the increasingly popular online trade.

Contipark also has commuters in mind with its tariff measure. The company offers them maximum flexibility with the favourable P Card tariff. Whether home office or office – thanks to the favourable tariff, drivers can decide spontaneously and according to their needs from where they want to work.

All they need is the P Card. This offers its users not only favourable special rates at numerous company locations, especially during pandemic periods, but also another advantage: it enables contactless parking. Ticketless entry and exit as well as contactless and cashless payment significantly reduce the risk of infection. The P Card can be applied for at www.mein-contipark.at.
